        HEADLINE NEWS:

THE PERSIAN FORCES ENTER BABYLON IN TRIUMPH! LONG LIVE THE PERSIAN EMPIRE!

In October 539 BC, His Majesty Cyrus II captured the great city of Babylon establishing the first World Empire. Our reporter was there and sent us this report.

        ***

The 200,000 residents of Babylon woke up this morning to find the Persian forces in their city. There has been no resistance to King Cyrus's army. The Babylonians are rejoicing that their much-hated king, Nabonidus, has fled the city. His Majesty King Cyrus has ordered his army to respect the Babylonian temples and palaces and not to destroy anything. The army has strict orders not to kill the women, children, priests, or doctors.

King Cyrus has just entered the city with much celebration. He has immediately gone to the temple of Marduk, the great Babylonian god, to pay his respects. He has also met with the Babylonian high priests and other dignitaries. The capture of Babylon is indeed the beginning of a new era.

AN INTERVIEW WITH A JEWSIH LEADER IN BABYLON

The Persian Times has discovered that His Majesty King Cyrus II has had a meeting with the exiled Jewish community in Babylon. We have interviewed one of the Jewish representatives to find more.

Q: What was the purpose of this meeting?

A: We wanted to meet with His Majesty to ask him to grant us permission to go back to Jerusalem to rebuild our temple.

Q: What did King Cyrus say?

He was very sympathetic. He agreed that we should build the temple. He has given us permission and the necessary funds to build the temple. We are also allowed to take back the treasures stolen by Neb..?.

How did you find King Cyrus?

His Majesty is very kind and understanding man. I believe he is the anointed one. We believe he is here to save us all.

        SPICE IT UP!

Is your husband tired of your tasteless food? Don't Worry! The Persian Times's food editor gives you these useful tips to flavor your next sumptuous dinner.

        ***

I recommend using different spices to flavor your food. Today in 500 BC, we use many different spices such as salt, black pepper, cinnamon, turmeric, saffron and more. Some of these spices are imported to Persia from India and Mesopotamia. They are delicious and believe me they make a difference!

Flavor your food with the help of the vegetable preserves. To make preserves just put your favorite vegetable or fruit in wine vinegar and salt and leave it in the dark. You'll have a nice preserve in no time.

My last recommendation is to use lemon juice. This exotic fruit has recently come to us from China. It has a zesty flavor, and its juice is perfect in stews. If you can't afford lemon, then use our own home- grown citrus fruit, narang.

        Happy Cooking!
