Symbols of Sadreh-pushi

Picture
On the day of Sadreh-pushi, my family, friends, and I will go to the fire temple because this ceremony has to be performed in front of fire, the symbol of Ahura Mazda. The ceremony is conducted by a mobed, A mobed is a religious guide (shown below).

At the fire temple, for the first time, I will wear a white cotton shirt called Sadreh. This shirt is the symbol of purity. From then on, I have to always wear my Sadreh under my clothes. Sadreh has a pocket where I can imagine to put all my good deeds there.

I will then tie a cord made of lamb's wool called Kusti around my waist. Every time I tie the cord around my waist I promise God to follow good thoughts, good words and good deeds.

After the ceremony, my family will throw a party to celebrate. My aunt and uncle will bring gifts for me.
We will dance and sing and celebrate my decision to become a Zoroastrian!
Check out the next page to learn about what prayers I should learn for my Sadreh-pushi.
