Story of King Houshang

Picture
Once upon a time there was a king name Kayumars who had a beautiful and brave son called Siamak. One day the angel Soroush came to Siamak and warned him about the Evil Spirit, Ahriman, who was making a plan to kill his father, King Kayumars.

Siamak became furious and rose an army and went into war with Ahriman. Ahriman had a son called the Black Demon who was in shape of a wolf.

Ahriman sent the Black Demon to war and the wolf attacked Siamak and killed him with his claws. King Kayumars got really sad. Everyone wore blue in sign of mourning and animals and plants cried in sadness.

Siamak had a wonderful son named Houshang. One day Soroush the fair angel came to Houshang and encouraged him to take revenge from Ahriman.

Houshang went to war accompanied by all kinds of animals, lions and tigers and with their help, he defeated and killed Ahriman’s son, the Black Demon.

Years later, after he became king, Houshang was riding with his companions he came across a black snake. King Houshang threw a stone to kill the snake. But the stone hit another stone and a sparkle started a fire. This way fire was discovered.

King Houshang then started a huge feast that night and invited everyone for a sumptuous dinner and wine! The fire festival of Sadeh was started since then.
